Roland Goering

Roland R. Goering, 84, of North Newton, died Feb. 20, 2002, at Memorial Home in Moundridge.

Born Nov. 18, 1917, in Moundridge, he was one of the 14 children of Henry A. and Lydia (Stucky) Goering. He attended Pleasant Ridge Grade School and Moundridge High School. He graduated with a bachelor's of arts degree from Bethel College and a master's degree from Hartford Theological Seminary.

On June 18, 1943, he married Fern Goering at Moundridge. She survives.

He was baptized at the Eden Mennonite Church in rural Moundridge. Later, he was minister at Eden Mennonite Church and served churches in California, South Dakota, Kansas, and numerous interim pastorates. He was a member of Eden Mennonite Church. He retired in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of North Newton; brothers, Howard Goering of Peabody, Vernon Goering and Wilbert Goering both of Moundridge; sisters, Lorita Regier of Burrton, Ellen Schrag of McPherson, Florence Swanson of Lincoln, Ark., Joy Thiessen of Moundridge, and Welma Thiessen of Peabody.

Memorial services were held Feb. 23 at Bethel College Mennonite Church with Pastor Steve Yoder officiating. Burial was at Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery at Moundridge.

Memorials have been established at Bethel College, Amnesty International, and Mennonite Central Committee.
