Ronney Ewert

Ronney Lee Ewert, wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, went to be with the Lord Feb. 2, 2007, at the age of 69, after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery in Swisher. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and for an hour prior to services Saturday at Brosh Chapel.

Ronney was born May 24, 1937, at Hillsboro. On August 27, 1959, Ronney married Elaine Wilma Sternad whom he spent the rest of his life with. Ronney's love and passion for his children and grandchildren was unmatched. He enjoyed attending family functions and lived for watching his children and grandchildren participate and compete in a variety of activities.

Ronney worked diligently for Ozark Airlines/TWA for 35 years. In 1992 he retired from the airline industry and chose to spend the winter months in Las Vegas, a tradition he faithfully followed for the past 12 years with his loving wife.

Ronney owned the Ewert's Skyway Lounge with his wife for nearly eight and one-half years where many wonderful friends were made and many unforgettable memories were forged.

Ronney is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elaine; son, Scott Ewert and wife Lori, children Aaron and Kierstyn from Wichita; daughter, Lori Sweeney and husband Gary, children Ryan, Karlee, and Kellen from Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Julie Hollingsworth, husband Scott, children Logan and Bailey from Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Lowell Ewert and wife Joyce from Geneseo, Ill.; sister, Joann Mann from Ely, Iowa; sister, Carolyn Simpson and husband Lynn from Pratt.

Ronney was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hilda Ewert.

Ronney will be truly missed by all who knew him though he will never be forgotten. The family of Ronney Ewert would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the University of Iowa Hospital, the seventh floor of Mercy Medical Center, Hospice of Mercy, and the Oncology Association for their loving compassion and care throughout the twilight of Ronney's life until his peaceful departure.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in memory of Ronney, or the family at 162 Crestridge Drive NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405.
