Round the town: Many residents attend Durham all-school reunion

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jantzen accompanied Lowell and Judy Goering of Hillsboro to the annual Mennonite Western District-South Central District Conference at Plano, Texas. The conference was held July 5-7.

Hannah Ollenburger's niece, Vivian Wagner from Wakefield, was a recent visitor at her home.

Vaughn Fleming from San Jose, Calif., was a weekend visitor at the Oliver Mohns.

Kimberly Koch from Wichita spent a few days with her grandmother, Pearl Koch.

On Thursday, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Oblander from Denver, Colo., and Kim Frantz visited at the home of Virgil and Jean Oblander in Hillsboro.

On July 4, Wayne and Carol Ollenburger hosted a cookout. Their guests were Fred and Kay Carlson, Verden and Pauline Harms, Elma Klein, and Hannah Ollenburger. On Sunday, the Ollenburger's guests were Gerald, Jessie, and Neil Ollenburger, and Elma Klein.

On Wednesday, Carol Ollenburger, Pauline Harms, and Ginny Abrahams went shopping in Wichita.

Many Hillsboro residents who graduated from Durham High School attended the all-school reunion on Saturday evening in Durham. There were approximately 200 in attendance. They came from Kansas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, South Dakota, California, Oregon, New Mexico, and others. Classes of 1950-51 and 1952 were honored. Ann Zimmerman from Salina brought the music program. The committee for 2005 is Jim Hamm, Gordon Christiansen, Robert Unruh, Duane Kaiser, Kathy Rector, Wayne Ollenburger, Jeanie Funk, Meredith Ryan, and David Hein.

Alice (Steiner) Fruits and a friend from Stockton, Calif., have been visiting the Steiner family in the area. They came especially for the Durham High School alumni reunion on Saturday evening.

On Saturday, visitors at the home of Bernice McDowell were Alice Fruit and friend of Stockton, Calif., Jerry and Tootsie Schmidt, and Eugene Steiner, all of Hillsboro; Alferd and Jerry Steiner, Don and Evelyn Hickerson, Bill and Hankie Thomas, Marge Steiner, and Shirley Lewis, all of Wichita; and Emmett and Loretta Sroufe from Garden Plain. In the evening, they all attended the Durham High School alumni banquet.
