Roy Schmidt
Roy O. Schmidt, 88, of Hesston, died Oct. 28, 2005, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
Born Nov. 29, 1916, at Newton, he was the son of Karl and Helen (Schroeder) Schmidt.
He was a charter member of Goessel Mennonite Church and a member of Goessel Lions Club, Mennonite men's chorus, and Showalter Villa men's chorus.
He retired from Hesston Corporation.
On May 30, 1998, he married Ruth Schmidt at Goessel.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Hesston; son, Jerry Schmidt of Boyne City, Mich.; two daughters, Carlotta Hemphill and Twila Schmidt, both of Lawrence; brother, Ormond Schmidt of McPherson; sister, Velora Krehbiel of Lakin; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at Goessel Mennonite Church with Pastor Kevin Goertzen and Pastor Greg Holmes officiating.
Burial was in Goessel Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with Goessel Mennonite Church or Mennonite Central Committee.
