Runners take second at Hesston

The Hillsboro High School boys' cross country team finished second at the Hesston Invitational Monday. The girls finished 24th out of 34 teams.

Almost all Trojan runners improved their times, especially the fourth through tenth runners.

"Overall, it was a good meet for the teams," said coach Stuart Holmes. "Having the fourth through tenth runners move up closer to the Yoders is one of the keys to doing well as a team."

The first place team was Ellsworth with 16 points; the Trojans took second with 23 points.

Seniors Aaron and Danny Yoder finished second and fourth, respectively. Juniors Kody Borg and Karl Magnuson finished sixth and seventh, respectively. The other top ten finisher was sophomore Daniel Bookless, ninth.

Mandy Estus was the top finisher for the girls' team, finishing 24th.

"Running well in their first race of the season and helping the girls' team to finish 24th were Sara Hamm and Melissa Hiebert," Holmes said.

The team will run Saturday at the Rim Rock meet in Lawrence and Tuesday in the Southeast of Saline meet in Gypsum.
