Sampler festival is huge success

Hillsboro's Got it All was the theme of the Hillsboro tent at the Kansas Sampler Festival held last Saturday and Sunday in Newton at Athletic Park. The 40x40-foot space was filled with community organizations, stores, and more.
The final total isn't in yet, but judging by the number of people who came in to find out what Hillsboro had to offer, the festival was a success.
Hillsboro showed off all it has with samples of sausage to dip in Grannies Mustard, coffee from Little Pleasures, and New Years Cookies by Carla Koslowsky. The Hillsboro High School jazz band added entertainment on Saturday, and Irv Schroeder came on Sunday to tell Low German tales. Country Haven Inn gave away a free night's stay, and a drawing was held for a Hillsboro basket. Dale's Supermarket donated 60 pounds of sausage.
The tent also held booths, samples, and displays from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Nancy's Fashions, Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair, Schale Company, Molly's on Main, The Garden Center, The Bookstore, Hillsboro Historical Society, Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course, Barkman Honey, Carousel Bed & Breakfast, Parkside Homes, Prudent Tours, Forget Me Not Flower Shop, Mary's Mats and More, Quilts and Quilt Racks, Hillsboro Furniture, and Panhandlers Catering.
The Kansas Sampler Festival was started in 1990 by Mil and Marci Penner of Inman and will be in Newton again next spring.
