Santa Fe Trail event to meet near Durham

Hay wagons to visit site of wagon ruts

The Cottonwood Crossing Chapter of the National Santa Fe Trail Association will have its quarterly tour and dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at a location southwest of Durham, at the Santa Fe Trail "blow out" site on Scully land.

To reach the site from U.S.-56, go north on Eagle Road six miles, and park alongside the dead-end dirt road. If you are coming off K-15, go west on 250th for three miles to Eagle Road, then go north one mile and park alongside the road.

Participants will go by hay wagon to the site of the Durham ruts.

Dinner will be at the Main Street Café in Durham and a talk on "The history of the Scully Ranch" will be given by Doug Sharp, manager of the Scully property.

Guests are welcome, but advance reservations are required. They may be made by calling Vernon Lohrentz at 316-284-2284 by noon Sept. 3.
