Sarah Ervin
Sarah C. Ervin, 92, of Goessel died May 20, 2002, at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
Born April 27, 1910, in Newton, she was the daughter of Albert Gallington and Eliza Rebecca (Marshall) Ervin. She attended Newton Public Schools and graduated from Newton High School.
Following high school, she worked as a Harvey Girl for the Harvey House in Newton. She also worked in the food service department at Axtell Hospital in Newton.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church, both in Newton.
She enjoyed walking, frequenting McDonald's where she was known as "Sarah Burger."
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ed Ervin and Calvin Ervin, and sister Blanche Ervin.
Survivors include her nephew Bill Barter of Arlington, Texas; nieces, Dorothy Julius of Albuquerque, N.M., and Sherry Cranor of Wichita; and guardian Gloria Arellano of Newton.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton with Rev. Walt Friesen, chaplain of Bethesda Home officiating. Burial was at the cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Meals on Wheels in Newton.
