Schaeffler House parade is Saturday

All children ages 12 and under are invited to bring decorated red wagons, tricycles, bikes, scooters, and doll carriages to walk in the "Red, White, and Blue" parade Saturday at the William F. Schaeffler House Museum grounds. The parade is part of the Fourth of July Eve celebration that will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Grand Avenue and Jefferson Street in Hillsboro. Prizes will be given to all participants in the parade.

Other children's activities include games such as hopscotch, a watermelon roll, and croquet.

Patriotic music and speeches by local politicians will be held on the east side porch of the Schaeffler House. A highlight of the evening will be an appearance by a well-known Hillsboro personality as Uncle Sam.

Grilled hot dogs and homemade ice cream will be for sale on the back porch of the house. Children for whom hot dogs and ice cream are purchased will receive free sparklers. There will be a supervised area for lighting the sparklers.

The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of old-fashion fun sponsored by the Hillsboro Museums.
