Schmidt, Sommerfeld wed

Carrie Marie Schmidt of Goessel and Justin Aaron Sommerfeld of Kinsley were married July 18, 2003, at Tabor Mennonite Church.

Rev. Corey Miller of Tabor Mennonite Church and Rev. Jeff Blackburn of Greensburg Mennonite Church officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Jim and Diana Schmidt of Goessel. The groom is the son of Glen and Marcella Sommerfeld of Kinsley.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore a strapless, A-line ivory Dulciana satin gown with a pickup back and tulle insert. The hidden detachable cathedral-length train and gown were embellished with hand-beaded alencon lace. She wore pearl earrings worn by her mother and grandmother at their weddings and carried a Bible given to her by her great-great-grandmother Carrie Groom. A blue crystal rose from her maid of honor was tucked in her bouquet.

Maid of honor was Amanda Unruh of Hesston.

Bridesmaids were Jill Sommerfeld, sister of the groom of Kinsley, Diane Kauffman of Richfield, Pa., and Tina Boschman of Kismet.

The bride's attendants were Elaine Yoder and Jenny Goertzen, both of Hesston.

Best man was the father of the groom.

Groomsmen were Ben Schmidt, brother of the bride, of Goessel, Ryan Koehn, and Matthew Unruh, both of Greensburg.

Flower girl was Olivia Duerksen, daughter of Gary and Angie Duerksen of Goessel.

Musicians were Jerry Toews of Goessel and Jason Peters of Hesston, pianists, and Nick Oswald of Hutchinson played trumpet.

Guest book attendants were Rachel Schmidt of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Megan Withiam of Goessel.

Taper lighters were Brette Ulsaker of McPherson and Nate Oswald of Hutchinson.

Ushers were Mike Schmidt and James Cressman, both of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Zane Wadel of Greensburg, and Aaron Koehn of Larned.

A dinner reception was held at the Hesston College Bontrager Student Center. Hosting the reception were Fred and JoAnn Schmidt of Goessel and Mark and Connie Oswald of Hutchinson.

Servers were Brandy Ashley of Goessel, Melissa Swartz of Thompsontown, Pa., and members of the Tabor-Goessel Youth Fellowship.

The bride is a 1999 graduate of Goessel High School and a 2001 graduate of Hesston College. She is attending Kansas State University.

The groom is a 1999 graduate of Lewis High School, attended Hesston College, and is attending Kansas State University.

After a wedding trip to the Black Hills, the couple is at home in Manhattan.

Rehearsal dinner

A July 17 rehearsal dinner was held at the Goessel City Building community room and was hosted by the groom's parents.
