School district supports Lehigh revitalization plan
Staff writer
Unified School District 410 held its regular board meeting Monday evening. Topics for the meeting included Lehigh's revitalization program, the 2003-04 school year audit, field trips to the Kansas City, Mo. area, the KASB assembly in Wichita, and the definition of defined benefits for classified employees.
The city of Lehigh requested participation from the board in a neighborhood revitalization program. The program would rebate taxes on residential, business, and historic property improvements for the next 10 years.
"It's a wash as far as the general fund goes," said Gordon Mohn, school superintendent.
According to Mohn, the school system wouldn't realize a loss in tax income in the general fund. Any difference would be made up for in state aid.
The board voted in favor of supporting the Lehigh revitalization program.
Scot Loyd, of the accounting firm Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk, and Loyd, presented the board with audit reports from 2003-04. The board approved the audit report after a review of the documents.
The board voted to revise its policy regarding student trips. Field trips to the Kansas City, Mo., area will no longer have to be approved by the board. These trips can be approved by the school principal.
Board members decided not to send a delegate to the KASB assembly in Wichita on Dec. 4.
Effective immediately, the board voted to clarify who will receive the district's health insurance benefit. "All USD 410 classified employees contracted to work for 630 hours per year or more shall receive the health insurance benefit" was adopted. Gordon Mohn, school superintendent, said the new language would not affect anyone currently receiving the health benefit.
Following a discussion regarding postponing the presentation financial reports and bills until Thursday morning, the board went into executive session to discuss employer-employee negotiations.
The next regularly scheduled USD 410 board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in Hillsboro High School technology building.
