School enrollment higher than expected

Unified School District 410 Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting Oct. 11. The agenda for the meeting included student trip policy, vehicle use policy, and reports on insurance and enrollment.
The board will vote at the next regularly scheduled meeting on a policy change regarding student trips. Currently the board's policy is that field trips out of the state must be submitted to the board of education for approval. They plan to vote on whether to allow field trips to the Kansas City, Mo., area without board approval.
The vehicle use policy for the district currently does not allow groups that use school vehicles to go out of state. The board discussed putting the policy on the next board meeting's agenda for a possible vote but decided to take no action.
Richard Nickel of The Insurance Center gave a report regarding liability coverage. Nickel said the school's rating had recently gone from a seven to a nine and that the change was being investigated. The rating change could increase insurance premiums for the district.
Official enrollment information for the 2004-05 school year has enrollment higher than expected. The 666 full-time enrollment is 34 higher than the board predicted.
The next regularly scheduled USD 410 Board of Education meeting will be 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at HHS technology center.
