School principal wins Frostbite Four-Mile

Hillsboro Elementary School principal Evan Yoder was the top finisher in the second annual Frostbite Four-Mile, run on New Year's Day in Hillsboro.

Yoder, of rural Peabody, ran a time of 25:28 to claim first place overall. Becky Yoder, Evan's wife, was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 30:17. Tammy Penner, formerly of Hillsboro, claimed second in 30:18.

Bob Woelk of Hillsboro was second out of the 25-30 runners and walkers in the event with a time of 28:30.

Mike Moran of Marion, a counselor at Hillsboro Elementary School, was fifth overall in 30:30.

"It was a gorgeous day for running, and the course was mostly clear of snow and ice," said Woelk, who in addition to running, worked with Randy Wiens and Hillsboro Recreation Director Doug Sisk to co-direct the race.

"It's hard to tell exactly how many runners participated because we are not really all that formal, and some people came to walk," Woelk added. "But, we estimate we had between 25 and 30 participants. It was a good event.

"The weather is always a surprise," he said. "Last year, it was 65 degrees. This year was more like what we would expect with the temperatures in the 30s."
