School projects moving along, right on schedule
The new additions at Hillsboro Middle School/High School and Hillsboro Elementary Schools are beginning to take shape.
At HMS/HHS, a new weight training facility with plans for it being opened to the public, office space for coaches, additional bathrooms, a training room, and locker rooms are being constructed between the buildings. Remodeling also is being completed to the high school science room and the greenhouse relocated.
The project also includes a much-needed parking lot that will provide 53 parking spaces.
New kitchen and cafeteria facilities are being constructed at HES with remodeling of the former office area and a classroom. The school's office area has already moved to the former USD 410 central office.
With this project, a circle drive will be featured on the east side of the building for dropping off students. A 66-space parking lot also will be added further east of the circle drive.
USD 410 Superintendent Doug Huxman said the construction projects were going well and completion still was anticipated by the time school starts in the fall.
"There are no significant changes and we're following the original plans," he said.
Plans for the school district's central office and transportation building/bus barn are last on Huxman's and the school board's list.
The central office has been located in the basement of Emprise Bank and there still is no word on where that office will be located or when.
"We're waiting until these two additions are substantially completed before we start moving the central office," Huxman said. "We want to make sure students' needs are met first."
