Season opens for Bluejay harriers
The 2004 cross country season got underway Saturday for the Tabor Bluejays and coach Karol Hunt as they opened the year at the Maple Leaf Invitational at Baker University in Baldwin.
Out of 11 competing teams, the Lady Bluejays snagged a ninth place finish while the men finished seventh.
Mid-America Nazarene took first in the women's division, scoring 38 points, and Johnson County won the 12-team men's field with 44 points.
In the 3200-meter race, the Lady Bluejays, competing without Angie Jost who had a family commitment, were paced by Heidi Schmidt's 13th place time of 13:16 for a medal.
Pete Richert paved the way for the men's team, finishing 47th out of 110 finishers in 18:27 on a five-kilometer run.
Next up for the Bluejay cross country team is Friday's meet in Wichita hosted by Friends at 6 and 6:30 p.m.
