Seniors to hold annual meeting Oct. 14 years ago
Senior Citizens of Marion County, Inc., met Sept.17 at Durham Community Building.
— No mill levy requests were presented. Patrons of Hillsboro Senior Center sent a thank you note to the board regarding replacement of concrete at the Hillsboro center. The board approved $1,010 for the concrete replacement project.
— Annual meeting tickets were distributed for senior centers to sell. The meeting will be held Oct. 14 at Goessel.
— A group of 30 from Marion County attended a senior fair Sept. 21 in Salina.
— USDA commodities will be available for centers to pickup and distribute Wednesday at the National Guard Armory at Council Grove.
— A workshop for community service advisors will be held Oct. 12 in Cottonwood Falls.
— Members of Marion County Department for Elderly attended Central Home Care and Hospice open house and barbecue Friday evening.
— Reports were heard from Al Schmidt regarding the transportation committee. Gene Andersen reported the fall silver hair legislation session will be Oct. 5-6 in Topeka.
— A list of board members eligible to serve another term was reviewed. Edwin Winter and Marlin Bartel will continue to represent district one, Margaret Jirak, district two, and Irvin Goertzen of Goessel will replace Al Schmidt from district three.
— County commissioner Bob Hein was in attendance and updated the board regarding county projects.
— A special first-aid workshop will be offered to volunteer drivers. Darryl Thiesen, county emergency medical services director, will provide the training from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at Marion Senior Center.
Notification will be sent to volunteer drivers. Anyone else also may attend. The next transportation meeting will be Nov. 10.
