Series of hospital meetings planned
Hillsboro Community Center and St. Luke Hospital have scheduled meetings to gather input for strategies for disease prevention and healthy living. The meetings are scheduled for Jan. 23 in Hillsboro, Jan. 27 in Marion, and Jan. 29 in Florence. Everyone is invited to attend.
The meetings are scheduled to last 1 to 1 1/2 hours and include a free lunch. The event is hosted by the Wheat Plains Health Network (WPHN). If you are interested in attending the Hillsboro meeting, call (620) 947-3114 before Jan. 17. If you are interested in attending either the meeting in Marion or Florence, call (620) 382-2177 by Jan. 21. Reservations are required.
Wheat Plains Health Network received a grant that will help complete network development planning and begin development of a care model for elderly with chronic health conditions living in rural areas. Current membership of the
WPHN includes the Anthony Hospital in Anthony, St. Luke Hospital in Marion, the Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita, and Hillsboro Community Medical Center in Hillsboro.
A $25,000 grant was awarded to the WPHN in June of 2002 from the Kansas Rural Health Options Project (KRHOP) of the Kansas Education and Research Foundation. KRHOP is a partnership of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), the Kansas Hospital Association (H), The Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services, and the Kansas Medical Society.
These grants are made for the purpose of fostering resource sharing among rural health care providers and enhancing emergency medical services (EMS) in rural areas. The development of networks has led to eliminating and improvement of health care services in rural communities across the state.
