Seven schools compete in Trojan Tennis Invitational

The Hillsboro High School tennis team hosted the Trojan Tennis Invitational April 8 at the sports complex.

Seven schools competed in the invitational. They included Chapman, Circle, Conway Springs, Hutch Trinity, Nickerson, Smoky Valley, and two Hillsboro teams, Red and Gold.

Hillsboro Gold took fifth, and Hillsboro Red took eighth, while Conway Springs placed first, followed by Hutch Trinity second, Smoky Valley, third, and Chapman, fourth.

"We are still a young team," head coach Kory Unruh said.

Individual scores were: No. 1 singles — Kyle Kroeker placed third. He defeated Zimmeran of Circle; lost to Ewertz of Conway Springs, 8-0; defeated Ohl of Hutch Trinity, 8-5.

No. 1 doubles — Macy Fadenrecht and Peter Fast placed fifth. They lost to Rockwell/Sullivan of Nickerson; defeated Adam Dirks and Caleb Barkman of Hillsboro Red, 8-1; and defeated Aitchison/Stull of Circle, 8-7.

Dirks and Barkman lost to Murphy/Albrecht, 8-1.

No. 2 singles — Justin Hein lost to Hoover of Chapman; had a bye the second round; and lost 8-2 to Smith of Smoky Valley.

No. 2 doubles — Michael Bosworth and Tyler Krich lost to Robinson/Creed of Conway Springs, 8-0; and lost to Brown/Dill of Chapman, 8-0.

The junior varsity tennis team will play Saturday at the Smoky Valley meet in Lindsborg.
