Seventh grade is honored for math excellence

Hillsboro Middle School recently received an award for outstanding performance in seventh grade math.

The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force awarded a Certificate of Merit for 2004 as part of the third annual Challenge Awards to HMS seventh grade math. The award honors last year's seventh grade class.

Middle school teacher Stephanie Sinclair accepted the award on behalf of the school Nov. 10 at a ceremony at Goddard High School.

The award recognizes schools for outstanding achievement and uncommon accomplishment based on 2004 school assessment tests and other factors.

"It really is a distinguished honor that those kids and Mrs. Sinclair earned when you look at only having 11 schools in the state earning that distinction," said Corey Burton, HMS principal.

Superintendent Gordon Mohn, HMS principal Corey Burton, Sinclair, and Joyce Loewn attended the presentation.

Hillsboro Middle School is one of only 11 middle schools in the state to receive this honor.

"We as a school challenged our kids last year to score well on the assessment and they definitely met that challenge," said Burton.
