Sheriff's office: Anhydrous ammonia popular with thieves

An unknown person entered private property at Agri-Producers, 211 5th, Durham, between 10 a.m. Aug 2 and 2:15 p.m. Aug 12 by crawling through a chain link fence. The individual attempted to steal anhydrous ammonia from storage tanks and cut a rubber bleed-off hose, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.

Another individual entered Agri-Producers, 205 S. Main, Tampa, between 5:30 p.m. Aug. 7 and 3 p.m. Aug 12 and took anhydrous ammonia from a nurse tank, reports Deputy Schmidt.

An individual signed a check belonging to Lesa L. Jost, 1741 30th, Peabody, at 1 p.m. Aug. 13. The signed check, valued at $1,200, was cashed at Emprise Bank, Hillsboro, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.

An individual entered a gas station at 525 Santa Fe, Durham at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 14 and asked a customer for a ride to Hillsboro. An employee told the individual not to bother clients. The individual became angry, used foul and abusive language, hit the counter, and called two employees dirty names, reports Deputy Schmidt.

A person removed and took an air conditioner compressor unit from a 1989 Mercury Cougar LS sometime between 8 a.m. July 11 and 10:22 a.m. Aug. 11 at 1737 170th, Marion. The unit, belonging to Machelle A. Ratzloff, 1717 190th, Marion, was valued at $240, reports Deputy Schmidt.
