Sheriff's office: Hay bales set on fire

Scott O'Dell, 2477 180th, Marion, stated he last looked at hay bales at 9 p.m. July 27. When he woke at 6 a.m. July 28, he discovered 54 big round bales of brome hay near his residence were on fire. The hay was valued at $2632.50, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.

An argument occurred between a 10- and 12-year-old at 8 p.m. July 31 in Florence. The older brother of the 12-year-old intervened and struck the 10-year-old on the shoulder, reports Deputy Mike Vineski.

A driver was stopped for not having an operable tag light at 11:50 p.m. July 26 at 270th and Kanza, Marion. During the stop the driver admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages. The driver, under age 21, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and minor consuming alcohol, reports Deputy Aaron Waddell.

An individual accused Michael Carl Flowers, 4615 N. Buhler Rd., Buhler, of attempted child abduction at 9:52 p.m. July 5 at Cottonwood Point site #22, Marion Reservoir. The individual punched Flowers in the face, reports Michael A. Fisher, Hillsboro Police Department.

An individual entered private property sometime between 9:30 a.m. June 8 and 9:30 a.m. July 10 at 1950 Sunflower, Marion, and removed an air filter and carburetor from a 10-horsepower Briggs small engine on a Heckendorn mower parked in a lean-to shed. The carburetor, belonging to Ralph E. Popp, 521 S. Cedar, Marion, is valued at $150, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.

An individual entered a pickup truck belonging to John T. Varelman, 405 Main, Tampa, sometime between 7 p.m. July 10 and 11:15 p.m. July 31 at 525 Santa Fe, Durham. The truck, which was for sale, was parked at the API store in Durham. The individual entered through the rear sliding window and removed a Jensen CD player valued at $250, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.
