Silhan, Thurston marry
Staci Joan Thurston of Hillsboro and Frederick Ruben Silhan of Pilsen were married Jan. 4, 2003, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Bruce Porter officiating the double-ring ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Lou and Lori Thurston of Hillsboro and Terry and Kathy Silhan of Pilsen.
The bride's grandparents are Jim and JoAnn Thurston of Burdick, Art and Harriet Suderman and Vi Suderman, all of Hillsboro.
The groom's grandparents are Maxine Svitak of Pilsen and Ella Winter of Marion.
The church sanctuary was decorated with poinsettias, tulle bows, and evergreen.
The bride was given away by her father and mother.
She wore a full-length satin dress with a scalloped edged bodice of beads and sequins. The elbow-length tulle veil had a cut-stone headpiece.
The bride carried a bouquet of red roses, hypericum berries, and heather.
Matron of honor was Jessi Weisbeck of Hillsboro, sister of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Meggan Daniel of Wichita, sister of the groom, and Jessica Ollenburger of Hillsboro.
Flower girl was Ellian Weisbeck of Hillsboro, niece of the bride.
Best man was Kevin Steiner of Lincolnville.
Groomsmen were Geoff Daniel of Wichita, brother-in-law of the groom, and Todd Winter of Marion, cousin of the groom.
The ring bearer was Cody Winter of Marion, cousin of the groom.
Organist was LeOra Grunau, and Karla Teljanova was pianist.
Candlelighters were Mayra Aguirra and Bethany Waring, both of Emporia.
Ushers were Lucas Carlson, Kelly Steiner, Damien Svitak, and Shane Svitak.
Guestbook attendants were Catherine Dekler and Crystal Castropp, both of Emporia.
Greeter was Erica Saltzman of Lehigh.
The bride's personal attendant was Laurie Hadley of Manhattan.
A reception was held in the church fellowship hall following the ceremony and was hosted by the aunts and uncles of the bride.
Reception attendants were Sara, Toshia, and Nadia Foth, all of Kerman, Calif.; Kelsi and Grant Suderman of Garnett; and Michael, Tyler, and Adam Suderman, all of Hillsboro.
The bride is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and is a senior majoring in marketing at Emporia State University.
The groom is a graduate of Centre High School and is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering in technology at Kansas State University in Salina.
After a honeymoon cruise to Cozumel, the couple resides in Salina. They plan to move to Sidney, Ohio, after graduation in June, where the groom will be employed as a plant engineer with Cargill.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents on Jan. 3 at the Hillsboro Scout House.
