Sophomore trio leads Trojans past Ellinwood
The Trojan girls' basketball team improved its record to 2-3 Friday night with a convincing 52-30 win over the Ellinwood Eagles.
Hillsboro, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Trojans were held to six points in the second quarter while the Eagles scored six points, giving Hillsboro an 18-12 half time lead.
The second half was all HIllsboro as they outscored Ellinwood 34-18. Sophomore Hannah Marsh scored nine of her 11 points, five at the free throw line, in the second half and swiped six steals.
"I think playing good competition before this game helped us," said head coach Becky Carlson. "Our experience showed in the way we played."
Carlson's team had everything clicking against the Eagles. The players executed well, the press and fast break worked, and the defense kept Ellinwood in check.
Sophomore Megan Peachey shot 100 percent from the floor, 3-for-3 of two-pointers and 1-of-1 of three pointers for nine points. She also grabbed four steals. Sophomore JuliAnne Chisholm led the team in rebounds with 10 while scoring seven points.
