Sosnieckis earn international journalism award

Gary and Helen Sosniecki, editors and publishers of the Lebanon Daily Record in Missouri, have received the top award presented by the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors.

The couple lived in Hillsboro from 1986-88 when he was editor and general manager of the Hillsboro Star Journal and she was a copy editor at the Wichita Eagle.

The Sosnieckis were featured in the recent edition of Grassroots Editor, a magazine for community journalists.

The Cervi Award has been presented for the past 24 years recognizing a journalist "who has consistently acted in the conviction that good journalism begets good government."

The award is not always issued, only when the committee deems a recipient is worthy.

Last year's winner was Bill Meyer of the Marion County Record. The preceding year's winner was from Nova Scotia.

The award was presented to the Sosnieckis at the annual convention held in Ireland.s
