Star-Journal responds to church fire
When a multimillion-dollar fire destroyed Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church and forced the evacuation of 15 residences Sunday night, the Hillsboro Star-Journal responded with an extra edition that hit the streets at 8 a.m. Monday.
The four-page tabloid, featuring three full pages of photos and early news coverage of the fire, was distributed free by mail and on newsstands throughout the county. Response was overwhelming and the extra edition went through two additional printings to keep up with demand.
Reader response was positive and the Star-Journal received numerous phone calls and e-mail messages from across the country requesting copies of the paper.
Coverage, including a PDF version of the complete extra edition, also was posted on the Star-Journal's website late Sunday. By Wednesday, the story had recorded more than 2,000 "hits."
