Star-Journal website has highest level activity

The Hillsboro Star-Journal Internet web site has recorded all-time record activity during the past week.

Viewers accessed the site to get news on the tragic fire which devastated Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

The Star-Journal also offered full color pdf files of the entire extra or special edition which was produced by 8 a.m. Monday after the Sunday evening fire.

The special edition, which was shared free of charge and contained no advertising, was highly popular with the public.

The first printing of 2,000 lasted only an hour. Another 2,000 was printed, with people waiting in line when the papers were brought from the press that afternoon. A third edition of another 2,000 also was snapped up by eager readers. Only a few remain at the newspaper office.

There were 101,078 "hits" this month, or an average of 90 times per hour.

A national newspaper which publishes articles about community newspapers has interviewed Hoch Publishing Co. officers for a story about producing the special edition.

The Star-Journal has received many letters, e-mails, and thanks for producing the special edition. Many people said they mailed copies to friends, and others say they are placing them in their scrap books or personal files.
