Six student-athletes have signed letters of intent to participate in various athletic programs during the 2006-07 year.

David Alanis, Monterrey, Mexico, will participate in the men's soccer program, according to head coach Herb Wiebe.

"As a coach, I am very excited about adding David to our roster," said Wiebe. "He brings a strong set of skills to our team that will allow him to contribute at several different positions on the field."

Alanis becomes the fourth international student to join the men's soccer team. Other students include Pay Nyang of Gambia and Jason and Stephen Sanglir of Thailand.

Kyle Kroeker, Hillsboro, signed a letter of intent to participate in the Tabor College men's basketball and tennis programs.

Kroeker was named MCAA first team, Hutchinson News second team, Wichita Eagle honorable mention, and the Dickinson County Classic Most Valuable Player for his basketball performance this season. His efforts helped lead his team to a 16-7 record. The Hillsboro High School Trojans ended the season as sub-state runners-up.

"Kyle is a very sound player fundamentally and is also a truly tough competitor," said Don Brubacher, head men's basketball coach. "It is amazing he has accomplished so much in spite of his injuries. We look forward to great things from him as he moves into college basketball."

Last year in tennis, Kroeker finished sixth in the state. He also helped lead his team to championship titles at the Hillsboro Invite and the Circle Meet.

"We are pleased to have Kyle join our men's tennis program at Tabor College," said Lonnie Isaac, head men's tennis coach. "Kyle has had a very successful high school career and we look forward to seeing him grow in his game and contribute to our program. Kyle is a dedicated student-athlete and will be a great addition to our returning nucleus of players."

Also excelling off the court, Kroeker is a member of the National Honors Society.

He is the son of David and Kim Kroeker of Hillsboro.

Aaron Schmucker, Inman, signed a letter of intent to participate in the men's soccer and basketball programs.

Schmucker, a Buhler High School goal keeper, was named Hutchinson News All-Area Goal Keeper of the Year in 2004 and 2005, first team all-league CTL III, first team all-region, and second team all-state. This year Schmucker helped lead his team to a 13-4-2 record and the regional champion title.

"I am very excited about adding Aaron to the team," said Herb Wiebe, head men's soccer coach. "He has potential to be a great keeper."

Schmucker's basketball honors include first team all-league CTL division III, second team all-area and all-state academic team. He was also a McDonald's All-American nominee and set a personal school record of 57 three pointers.

"Aaron brings lots of abilities to our program and is a quality addition," said Brubacher.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and the high honor roll.

Schmucker is the son of Bryan and Becky Schmucker of Inman.

As a junior and senior, Sigley led the Cheney High School cross country team as the captain. Under his leadership, the team placed fourth at regionals. Sigley qualified for state as a sophomore and was named a Gatorade Player of the Year.

The scholar-athlete also excelled academically as a member of the National Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Principal's Advisory Board, Who's Who Among American High School Students and the Varsity Sports Medicine Team.

"Daniel will add great depth to the men's cross country team," said head coach Karol Hunt. "I am looking forward to his contribution to the team over the next four years."

Sigley holds the Cheney High School record in the 800M, 1600M and 3200M. As a team leader, he was the top distance runner and raced in the Pasco Invitational.

"I am extremely excited about Daniel and his potential impact on our men's team," said head track and field coach David Kroeker. "His 1600-meter time will definitely be competitive when he runs the 1500 in college. He's an excellent student along with being a fine young man."
