Summer road work planned for highways

Planned road construction projects in Marion County for 2005 recently were released by Kansas Department of Transportation. Marion County Commissioner Randy Dallke requested the information and made the information public at a recent commission meeting.

— On March 14, reconstruction of U.S.-77 from Florence to Marion will begin. Through traffic will be detoured from Florence along U.S.-50 east to K-150 west to U.S.-77.

Local traffic will be encouraged to use 140th from Sunflower east across U.S.-77 to Florence. Completion is anticipated by the end of September 2006.

— Reconstruction of U.S.-77 from the Marion County/Butler County line to 50th near Burns will begin in March. The road will remain open and the new road will be built on an off-set alignment. The project should shift traffic back and forth from old to new. Completion is anticipated this year.

— Road patching on U.S.-50 in Marion and Harvey counties will begin in March. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic control signals at each closure. Completion is anticipated by early to mid-summer, weather permitting.

— Overlay of U.S.-56 and K-15 north will begin in May. This project will start at the McPherson/Marion county line and proceed east to the north junction of K-15. It will continue north on K-15 to the Marion/Dickinson county line.

The project will include surface and cold recycling, and overlays. Completion is anticipated by August or September.

— Overlay of U.S.-56 north of K-150 junction is planned to begin in June. The project will start at the U.S.-56/K-150/U.S.-77 junction and proceed north to the south city limits of Lincolnville. The project will be a cold recycle and overlay. Completion is anticipated by October.
