Swim team earns third Saturday at league meet at Lindsborg

The Hillsboro swim team fans endured a what seemed endless meet last Saturday at Lindsborg. The marathon meet began at 9 a.m. and finished shortly after 6:30 p.m., allegedly being the longest league swim meet in the history of the league. The meet was the culminating event for the 10 town teams that are members of the MKL league, including Abilene, Council Grove, Herington, Hesston, Hillsboro, Lindsborg, Marion, Moundridge, Peabody, and Solomon.

"I was really proud of how our swimmers performed," Coach Matt Vogt reported. "We were missing most of our 13-14 age swimmers and several of our stronger swimmers from some of the other age groups due to church camps and other trips. But I was really impressed with how the other swimmers stepped up to fill the gaps. And lots of them swam better than ever, taking as much as 15 seconds off their previous times in some of the relays."

Vogt went on to say that had all of the team been present for the meet, Hillsboro would have easily ended up in second place with a shot at first.

The local team has had an outstanding season, bringing home not only many individuals ribbons and team awards, but also many personal bests for of swimmers across the board. Coaches Matt Vogt and Mary Kay Humber are to be commended for their efforts.

The team will have its awards dinner and swim party to celebrate their season at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hillsboro city park.
