Swim team takes second at Herington

Half of team is held behind in Hillsboro for youth camp

For a team that was only half there, second place wasn't too bad.

The Hillsboro swim team traveled to Herington last Saturday to compete against Abilene and Herington, but only half of the team traveled with them. The rest were attending a Mennonite Brethren youth camp being held that week at Tabor College.

But despite the numbers, head coach Mary K. Humber was still pleased with her squad. They came in second to Abilene, who garnered 515 points overall. Hillsboro had 491 points, while Herington finished with 410 points.

"While missing nearly half our team, we lost by only 24 points — that's just amazing," Humber said.

Individually, Hillsboro's swimmers continue to improve with each meet. On Saturday, the 35 swimmers there hit a total of 97 best times.

"The kids really rallied to jump into second place," Humber said. "With every swimmer turning in best times, a coach couldn't ask for more."

Individual statistics were unavailable at press time.
