Swim team wins at Moundridge meet

The Hillsboro swim team got its season off to a strong start Saturday by defeating perennial powerhouse Lindsborg at a meet hosted by Moundridge.
Hillsboro won the meet by 26 points, taking home a score of 639 against Lindsborg's 613. Host team Moundridge only gathered 22 points.
Lindsborg always has a strong team, with more than 80 swimmers this year, and defeating them was a great way to start the summer, said Coach Mary K. Humber.
"Our kids produced 66 best times this meet (over last year's times)," Humber said. "That's incredible for the first meet of the season."
Humber was impressed with the performance of her oldest boy swimmers. Since there are no boys registered in the 15- to 18-year-old division this year, the 13- and 14-year-olds are competing in the higher age group. Justin Brown, Greg Carlson, Brantley Hanna, and Caleb Barkman all stepped up to the challenge.
"I was really proud of them," Humber said.
Hillsboro hosts Hesston this Saturday at their first, and only, home meet of the season. The first race starts at 9 a.m.
Also this Saturday, the team will be selling swim gear as part of a team fundraiser. T-shirts, swim suits, goggles, and other swimming items will be for sale at the pool from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The remainder of the swim team's schedule is as follows: June 15, at home against Hesston; June 22, at Herington against Herington and Abilene; June 29, at Peabody against Peabody and Herington; July 6, league championship meet at Council Grove.
