Tabor announces homecoming schedule

Tabor College alumni and friends are invited to Homecoming 2004 from Oct. 7 to 10. This year's theme is "Set Afire!," emphasizing the passion found within everyone, resulting in a life full of purpose and meaning.

The Tabor Drama Department will open Homecoming festivities with a performance of the Moss Hart and George F. Kaufman comedy, "You Can't Take It With You."

The cast will present four performances: Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Hillsboro High School Auditorium. General admission seating is $8 and student tickets are $5. Reservations for tickets can be made through the Student Development Office at 620-947-3121 ext. 1033.

The Homecoming Festival Golf Classic will begin Friday morning at Reflection Ridge in Wichita and will be followed by the Festival Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Wichita. Also on Friday, a special convocation in the Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium will feature Medallion Award recipient Bryce Unruh, a 1991 graduate and project manager at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. Convocation begins at 1:10 p.m., and the public is invited to attend.

Saturday morning events will begin with the complimentary "Planting a Legacy" breakfast and special presentation by Jon Wiebe and Jack Braun of the Mennonite Brethren Foundation. Reservations are required.

Activities to follow include MusicFest, featuring Tabor music ensembles, and a 2-mile and 5K fun run, 9 a.m.; men's and women's alumni tennis, 9 a.m.; men's and women's varsity soccer scrimmage versus alumni, 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively; women's volleyball versus alumni, 10:30 a.m.; children's activities for ages preschool through grade eight, 10 a.m.; a business major's reception, 10 a.m.; class reunions, 10:30 a.m.; the dedication of the Lohrenz Memorial Garden, 11:45 a.m.; and a barbeque, 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon activities will begin with a young alumni (classes of 1994-2004) tailgate party and a football alumni tailgate party before the 2 p.m. varsity football kickoff time against Friends University at Reimer Field. The Homecoming Buffet, featuring traditional Dutch and American dishes, will follow the game at 5 p.m. An alumni baseball game will conclude the evening. A noon buffet will be offered in the cafeteria on Sunday.
