Tabor baseball signs Nickerson standout
Tyson Bauerle, a two-time First Team All State First Baseman from Nickerson, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Tabor College next season, according to coach John Sparks.
During his junior year at Nickerson High School, Bauerle helped lead his team to win the 2002 3A State Championship. This past year, Bauerle propelled Nickerson to a 19-3 record and a regional championship before being upset in the state playoffs.
During the 2003 high school season, the multi-talented Bauerle hit .416 while recording a 6-3 record on the mound with a miniscule .70 ERA. Bauerle was also a key component in this year's state runner-up Nickerson American Legion baseball team which finished with an impressive 36-12 record. With Bauerle again hitting over .400 during the summer, Nickerson lost in the state final to Baxter Springs.
"Tyson is a great fit for us at Tabor," Sparks said. "He is an outstanding baseball player, an excellent student and has the type of character and work ethic we are after in our program."
According to Sparks, Bauerle's versatility is an advantage.
"We feel like Tyson will make an immediate impact both on the mound and as a position player. We are thrilled to have him as a part of Tabor baseball."
