Tabor Bible Conference starts Sunday

Tabor College's Bible Conference 2002 will feature Don Whitney of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as guest speaker. "Questioning Your Heart" will be the theme of the conference to be held Sept. 22 to 23.

Whitney has served as associate professor of spiritual formation at the seminary, located in Kansas City, Mo., for the past six years. Before working at Midwestern, he was pastor of Glenfield Baptist Church in Glen Ellyn, Ill., for almost 15 years. He then helped to plant Kansas City's North Pointe Baptist Church, where he served on the pastoral ministry team for five years before becoming minister-at-large for the church.

Whitney has authored four books since 1991: Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life (NavPress, 1991), How Can I Be Sure I'm a Christian? (NavPress, 1994), Spiritual Disciplines Within the Church (Moody Press, 1996), and Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health (NavPress, 2001).

The first session, "Are You Spiritually-Minded," will be held in the Tabor gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The second session will ask the question, "Do You Have the Motive Needed for Answered Prayer?" It will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the Tabor Chapel-Auditorium. Whitney will end the conference that night, also in the Chapel-Auditorium, by asking, "Do You Thirst for God?" It will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The public is encouraged to attend any or all of the sessions. For more information, contact the Student Development Office at (620) 947-3121 ext. 1033.

A Pastor's Focus will also be held in conjunction with the Bible conference on Monday. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the gymnasium entrance. Participants will attend the morning session of the conference. At 10:45 a.m., Whitney will lead a session on "Ten Ways to Improve Your Church's Worship Service." The Pastor's Focus will include a luncheon, ending at 1:30 p.m.

Pastors and pastoral staff are encouraged to RSVP for the event. The registration fee of $15 includes the seminar, lunch and a copy of Whitney's latest book. To make reservations, e-mail advancement@tabor.edu or call Clint Seibel, director of church relations, at (620) 947-3121 ext. 1704.
