Tabor Bluejays set school records at McPherson
The Tabor track and field team was in action Saturday at the McPherson College Open.
Despite competing shorthanded with many of the team members on spring break, it didn't stop the Bluejays from setting a pair of school records.
Due to an open meet, no team scores were kept.
For the men, Hope freshman Clint Reed crushed Jimmy Janzen's two-year record of 6-6 in the high jump by leaping 6-8.
Teammate Matt Rorabaugh tied Janzen's record with second place.
In Lady Bluejay action, Tamara McCarren threw a third-place 133-7 to break her own record in the hammer throw.
In other men's action, Brian Lightner claimed a runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.79.
Landon Goertzen finished second in the 800-meters in 1:57.
Tabor's 4x400-meter relay team also ran a third-place 3:38.24.
For third place, Lee Waldron heaved the javelin 156-3 to round out top three finishes.
Aside from McCarren taking third in discus with a 123-10 throw, the Lady Bluejays also picked up a quartet of second place finishes.
Freshman Ashley Sherrer came in second in high jump with a leap of 5-0.
Fellow freshman Jennifer Palmgreen ran a second place time of 13.5 in the 100-meter dash.
Tabor 4x100- and 4x400-relay teams ran second place times of 55:16 and 4:45.5, respectively.
The Bluejay thinclads return to action April 3 in Wichita at Friends University for a 10 a.m. start.
