TABOR COLLEGE: Lady 'Jay netters complete unbeaten week
Tabor volleyball team upends McPherson, Sterling, St. Mary
Rack up one more unblemished week in the books for the Lady Bluejay volleyball team after opening the week Oct. 1 at McPherson.
The week's worth of destruction leaves the Bluejays atop the KCAC at 7-0 and 11-4 overall.
Destruction?
Throughout the week, nobody lasted more than three matches with Tabor.
The Bluejays mowed down the hosting Lady Bulldogs Oct. 1 by 30-19, 30-23 and 30-24 scores.
Angela Kroeker and Erin Loewen each had 13 kills while setter Sarah Haggard added 37 assists to go along with her 14 digs.
Two days later in Sterling, the Bluejays swept the Lady Warriors behind a stellar performance by Rachelle Regier.
Regier was simply unstoppable, making a game-high 13 kills and six blocks.
The Bluejays won the trio against the Warriors by 31-29, 30-21 and 30-20 margins.
"We had a great time at Sterling," said Bluejay coach Amy Ratzlaff. "Our offense was running very well, and Rachelle was unstoppable. I've never seen her hit like that before."
Other notable performances came from freshman Shannon Kroeker, who continues to make rapid progress in establishing herself as an outside hitter. Shannon had nine kills and five blocks.
Loewen picked up three aces, Laura Campbell also supplied a quintet of blocks, and Angela Kroeker furnished 12 digs.
Haggard had an astounding 41 assists.
The Bluejays capped off their perfect week Saturday in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Hillsboro on homecoming against St. Mary.
Of the three shining conference wins for the week, the 30-22, 30-19 and 30-27 wins against St. Mary were the dullest for Ratzlaff.
"We didn't play as sharp as we have before," she said. "We weren't clicking and as smooth. We could never get on a roll and into our own rhythm.
"It was a good way to end the week, and Saturday was a very enjoyable experience for the girls."
Regier followed up her stunning Thursday performance with 11 kills, Campbell had nine blocks, and Loewen, Johannah Love and Carmen Hein combined for 17 digs.
Haggard improved her assist average to over 12 per game, posting 36 against St. Mary.
The Bluejays traveled Tuesday to Lindsborg to face the Bethany Swedes before returning home Thursday to face the Southwestern Lady Moundbuilders in a 6 p.m. meeting.
The biggest test of the season perhaps awaits the Bluejays on Monday when they travel to North Newton for a rematch against the second-place Lady Threshers of Bethel.
Monday's game begins at 6 p.m.
