TABOR COLLEGE: Lady 'Jays end Moundbuilder curse
Tabor snaps losing streak against
Lady Moundbuilders;
postseason action continues tonight
Regardless of how good the Lady Bluejay volleyball team is, they always seem to face a blowout against Southwestern in Winfield.
Not just the volleyball team, but the basketball team, too.
The Bluejays ended the bad luck streak in Winfield, Nov. 7, sweeping the Moundbuilders in three games to end the regular season on a high note.
Tabor was victorious by 30-28, 30-25 and 30-24 margins to move to 20-6 overall and 16-2 in the KCAC.
"It was a great evening for us," coach Amy Ratzlaff said. "We rolled offensively, and everything seemed to work for us, so we finished the regular season strong."
As a result of the stellar performance by the Bluejays against Southwestern, Erin Loewen and Sara Haggard earned KCAC Player- and Setter-of-the-week honors, respectively.
In a two-game span against both Bethany and Southwestern, Haggard totaled 77 assists to earn setter-of-week honors for the fourth time this season.
Against both the Swedes and the Moundbuilders, Loewen led the Bluejays with 17 kills, one ace and 26 digs.
Rachelle Regier turned in a scintillating outing against the Moundbuilders with 12 kills and seven blocks.
Ratzlaff also spoke highly of Laura Campbell, Shannon Kroeker, and Jill Hein.
"Rachelle, Shannon, and Laura have really changed our game over the year," Ratzlaff said. "They've balanced us out.
"We have a balanced offense so that wherever an opponent shuts us down somewhere, somebody else stepped up.
"Jill had that kind of spark that helped us. The Southwestern game was what we needed to help us get ready for the postseason."
This week, Tabor is hosting the KCAC post-season tournament. Tabor, seeded No. 1, received a first-round bye on Tuesday. They face the Ottawa Braves in the second round tonight at 7 p.m.
