TABOR COLLEGE: Lady 'Jays hit mid-season slump
Tabor softball team
on four-game slide, dropping nine of last 11
It seemed like only yesterday, everything was going right for the Lady Bluejays.
Two weeks ago, for the first time in school history, Tabor was five games above .500 at 13-8.
But after a rough spring break in Kansas City, mixed with a duo of tart performances at home, the Bluejays find themselves looking to get back on the winning track.
So much for the Bluejays being invulnerable in Hillsboro.
After dropping a rough pair Saturday in Hillsboro to the St. Mary Lady Spires, Tabor is trying desperately to shake a four-game slide with all losses coming at home.
The Spires ran away with the early game, 9-1, before outlasting Tabor in the finale, 6-4.
The sweep by the Spires leaves the Bluejays struggling at 15-19 on the year as Tabor has stumbled in nine of its last eleven.
The rough week began March 31 when the Bluejays split a doubleheader against the Ottawa Lady Braves in Ottawa.
The ceiling fell on the Bluejays in the opener as they were blanked 10-1.
Tabor bounced back in the finale, 9-0, for one of the only two wins it has been able to muster in its last 11 games.
Two days later in Hillsboro, mistakes proved costly for the Bluejays as they were swept by the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes, 4-1 and s2-0.
Spring break is usually a time to unwind and relax, but it didn't happen that way for Tabor as they went 1-4 at the Avila Tournament in Kansas City.
The tournament got off to a rough start for the Bluejays March 28 against the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma Lady Drovers.
Despite a valiant effort by the Bluejeays, the Drovers edged them 4-3.
The Bluejays ended the day on a winning note, stopping Mount Mercy, 4-1.
Things couldn't have gone anymore awry than they did for the Bluejays the final day of the tournament.
The day began with a hard 9-1 pill to swallow from league-foe Bethany.
Avila trampled Tabor 10-2 before Grand View dropped another 10-2 bomb on the Bluejays in their final game of the tournament.
The Bluejays traveled to McPherson yesterday before returning home April 16 to host Sterling.
