TABOR COLLEGE: Lady 'Jays win pair in Oklahoma

The Lady Bluejay volleyball team has done some revamping since stumbling at home Sept. 24 to a giant Kansas Newman team.

The end result has left the Bluejays on a three-game winning streak with Tabor racking up its second and third wins Saturday in Shawnee, Okla., against St. Gregory and Southeastern Oklahoma State.

In the opening match against St. Gregory, Tabor, paced by 16 kills from Angela Kroeker, 31 assists from Sara Haggard, and 10 digs from Adri Bechtold, swept the Lady Cavaliers by 30-24, 30-18 and 30-28 scores.

A slow start in the finale against SE Oklahoma State helped the Lady Savages claim the opening set, 30-24.

Tabor bounced back to win the next two, 30-27 and 30-26.

The Savages forced a fifth set with a 30-25 victory.

Tabor won the match 3-2 with a 15-8 win in the final game.

Kroeker and Erin Loewen added 16 kills each with Kroeker also posting 18 digs against the Savages.

Haggard made an astounding 54 assists to go along with eight aces while Rachelle Regier had six blocks.

"This was a good week overall for Tabor volleyball," Bluejay coach Amy Ratzlaff said. "Tuesday's game against Newman was a good wake-up call for us.

"It allowed us to see what aspects of our game needed fixing. The women worked on those things the rest of the week, and we are a better team because of it"

Tabor put together a solid match of volleyball from beginning to end Thursday night at home against an exhausted Friends team.

The Bluejays had little trouble disposing of the Lady Falcons in three games.

"We did a lot of work on our passing and our serve-receive," said Ratzlaff of her team's performance against the Falcons. "It was good to see a lot of things go the way that we have worked at making them go instead of trying to fix things and not a result out of it."

Haggard had eight aces and 37 assists, Kroeker furnished 10 kills and 16 digs, Loewen added 12 kills, and Laura Campbell had six blocks.

The 8-4 Bluejays were in action Tuesday night at McPherson. Results of action with the Bulldogs were unavailable at time of press.

Tabor travels today to Sterling for a match with the Lady Warriors at 6 p.m.
