women end season

with loss to Bethany

The Tabor men's soccer team has advanced to the final game of the KCAC tournament.

The men advanced by beating Bethel on Tuesday 5-0 in the second round. Tabor received a bye in the first round.

They meet St. Mary in the final game on Friday at 2 p.m. The game will be held at home.

The women's squad lost to Bethany on Tuesday by a score of 4-1.

Both men's and women's teams finished the regular season in strong fashion. Each ended on a three-game winning streak.

But that's not the only thing identical about the two team's season results. Each team ended the season with an undefeated 8-0 conference record. The stellar conference record earned each of them a bye in the first round of the KCAC tournament.

The men's team finished with an 11-6 record overall, and the women's squad finished 11-7.

Each team also earned its share of league honors.

For the men's team, coach Nathan Wilkey was named the 2002-03 KCAC coach of the year.

Six players were named to all-conference teams: goalie Joe Stutzman, forward Neil Rabi, midfielder Scott Friesen, defender Damon Turkle, defender Mike Zollinger, and forward Grant Brubacher.

But the women's team was far from outdone.

The Lady 'Jays also saw their coach receive league honors. First-year coach Dylan Pohlman was also named KCAC coach of the year for 2002-03.

Six of that team's players were named to all-conference teams: forward Chrissy Previtera, midfielder Becca Toews, defender Michelle Rink, goalie Kari Shorb, midfielder Kathleen Stagg, and defender Stephanie Stuber.
