Tabor discussions to explore war, peace issues
In response to current international tensions, Tabor College will be offering a series of events in the next few weeks relating to war and peace.
Participants from several Christian traditions will hold a forum to discuss "Christian Responses to War" on Monday, Nov. 11, beginning at 7 p.m. Speakers will include Dorlan Bales, a member of the Friends of Jesus Community in Wichita; Marion Bontrager, professor of religion at Hesston College; John E. McCormick, Ph.D., assistant professor of theology at Newman University and associate director of the Respect Life and Social Justice Office of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita; Fr. Paul O'Callaghan, dean of St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral of Wichita; and others.
"This forum is an opportunity to learn how Christians from a variety of traditions approach the question of participation in war," said Dr. Doug Miller, associate professor of biblical and religious studies.
Several people, including Tabor College faculty members, will share their own "Personal Journeys in Regard to War and Peace" on Monday, Nov. 18, beginning at 8 p.m.
"Mennonite Perspectives on Peacemaking" will be examined Monday, Nov. 25, as presentations are offered based upon Scripture and the Mennonite faith. This event will also begin at 8 p.m.
"My hope is that those who attend will come away both informed and challenged to work carefully at their own convictions on these issues," said Miller.
All sessions will be held in the Tabor College Chapel-Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
