Tabor fall retreat begins Friday
The Tabor College Fall Retreat will feature Mark Cerbone of Buffalo, N.Y., as guest speaker Oct. 18 to 21.
A native New Yorker, Cerbone has traveled a long spiritual pilgrimage, beginning in 1972 when he publicly committed his life to Jesus Christ. After graduating from Houghton College in 1978, Cerbone served a two-year voluntary term in Philadelphia with Mennonite Central Committee. In 1979, he began a ten-year involvement with the "Creation" annual outdoor Christian festival, moving from volunteer work to staff coordinator and planning committee member.
Cerbone returned to Philadelphia in 1986 to serve as a joint assistant to Ron Sider and Tony Campolo. He also worked at Eastern College in student development and taught youth ministry courses. After encouragement from Sider and Campolo, Cerbone pursued public speaking opportunities and substituted for both men on occasion. As part of a church-planting team, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in West Chester, Pa., was established in 1988.
Cerbone has traveled throughout North America, Central America and Great Britain. In addition to public speaking, he coordinates the Younger Leaders Network, a low-key effort to identify, equip and mentor young men and women with strong Christian commitments, leadership gifts and global vision. He has been a repeat guest on Crawford Broadcasting Systems' "Lifeline" radio program, and has been a repeat presenter at Houghton College's annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Colloquium.
He has spoken at over 30 member schools of the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities, as well as at seminaries and secular campuses. Cerbone, a Staley Distinguished Lecturer, has also spoken at churches, retreats and conferences.
The public is invited to hear Cerbone speak during his five sessions at Tabor College. The retreat will begin Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m., and will continue on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and conclude at Monday's convocation in the Chapel-Auditorium at 9:30 a.m.
