Tabor harriers take third place
The Tabor men's and women's cross country teams netted a pair of third place finishes Saturday at the Tabor College Invitational meet held at Marion County Reservoir.
The Lady Bluejays' 67 points left them 25 points behind Hutchinson Community College and Kansas-Newman, who tied for first place of the 14 teams competing.
Highlighting the meet for the women was a second-place finish by Angie Jost, who ran the five-kilometer race in 19:46.
Kendra Raber set a new personal record with a time of 21:57, which earned her a T-shirt.
The Blue Dragons also finished on top of the men's division, but this time, beating out Newman by a 34-42 margin.
Tabor followed with 88 points for the 12 teams with six of its seven men's runners setting personal records.
Pete Richert paced the men's team, running an eight-kilometer race in eighth-place time 28:27 which awarded him a T-shirt.
"That is an outstanding time for only the second eight-kilometer race of his college career," Bluejay coach Karol Hunt said of Pete Richert's finish.
Jeff Anenson took 15th for a T-shirt in a time of 29:06.
Tabor showed depth and competition with runners finishing 25th, 26th, 27th and 29th out of 63 finishers.
Ryan Sperling was 25th (29:58,) Kyle Larson came in 26th (29:59,) and Matt Lynam placed 27th (30:07.)
Kevin Larson rounded out the top 30 finishers, coming in 29th (30:10.)
Despite finishing 44th, Will Higerd's time of 32:15 was good enough for a new best.
Even though Sperling was the only member of the men's team that didn't set a personal record, he still ran his best time in two seasons.
"Our individual and team efforts were outstanding today," said Hunt. "The men ran very strong as individuals and as a team.
"We showed our depth as a team by coming in 25th, 26th, 27th and 29th, all within 12 seconds of each other and just lower than or slightly over 30:00. I am very pleased with what the men are accomplishing right now."
The Bluejays return to action Oct. 11 in the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational.
