Tabor, Hillsboro Rec team up for area kids

Staff writer

More than 30 area youth got up early last Saturday to participate in the first soccer camp sponsored by Tabor College Soccer and the Hillsboro Recreation Commission.

"I like to see the college getting involved with the youth," said Hillsboro recreation director, Matt Dalke. "It really promotes the game."

Head men's soccer coach, Lincoln Wulf, helped organize the camp, and players showed up to work with the kids. Participants were divided into groups and taught soccer fundamentals.

After reviewing soccer rules, the young soccer players worked on their shooting and trapping skills and played a mini tournament.

"The kids really enjoyed it, and hopefully the things they learned will help them in the upcoming soccer league. I'd like to see us make the camp even bigger in the future, maybe even hosting more than one day," said Wulf.

According to Dalke, the skill and knowledge of the coaches and players is a benefit to the community.

"The kids learn a lot out here. I'd like to see us use this as a model for building a strong connection between the kids and the college."
