Tabor men's Bluejay soccer team went up against McPherson, Bethany, Ottawa, York College, and Friends in the past two weeks.

Tabor lost Monday to Friends University 2-3. Both goals were scored by Grant Brubacher, senior from Hillsboro.

Tabor was a little slow to start according to head coach Lincoln Wulf.

"Friends University is the number one team in the conference," he said. "I think we were a little intimidated."

According to Wulf, Friends' first two goals were lapses on Tabor's part.

"We came back and tied it up again though," said Wulf. "We really did a good job controlling the ball. The mid-field was really stepping up, and the defense was solid."

Tabor's third goal was off a penalty kick.

"With five minutes left in the game, a Friends' player fouled us in the box. The referee thought we fouled them and gave them a PK," said Wulf. "That won the game for them."

Saturday Tabor played York College in York, Neb., tying 1-1 in double overtime. Brubacher scored for Tabor.

"It was one of our best games of the year as far as being able to play well," said Wulf. "York's a really good team, and I think we were relaxed because it was a non-conference game."

The team lost 2-1 in double overtime against Ottawa University last Thursday. Jon Adrian, a senior from Hesston, scored Tabor's one goal.

"We didn't play very well in the first half," said Wulf. "The second half we played a solid 45 minutes and tied it up."

In the second overtime one of Tabor's defenders slipped on the muddy field which gave Ottawa the opportunity to score.

Tabor played Bethany Oct. 11. The Blue Jays held game at 0-0 until four minutes left in the game when the Swedes scored. Tabor lost 0-1.

"We started out pretty strong," said Wulf, "but about 10 minutes into the game we lost our ability to pass the ball. We were out of sync and out of rhythm for the rest of the game. We were strong defensively, but we couldn't get anything going."

The Bluejay defeated McPherson College Oct. 6, 1-0.

"We didn't play particularly well," said Wulf. "McPherson actually had possession of the ball more than we did, but it was another strong defensive performance."

The team's one goal was scored by Chris Adrian, a freshman from Hesston.

Tabor's next game is against Sterling College at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sterling. If the Bluejays win, they will be tied for third place in the conference.

"It's a lot better than we did last year," said Wulf, "but I don't think it will have any bearing on who plays who in the conference tournament."
