Tabor netters go 3-2 at Olathe Tourney

n Tabor volleyball team completes week 3-3

The Lady Bluejays spent the weekend in Olathe, competing in the Mid-America Nazarene tournament.

Tabor went 3-2 over the two-day tournament, completing the week at 3-3.

The Bluejays opened the tournament with a rough start Friday, tumbling in four matches to the Benedictine Lady Ravens.

Tabor lost the first two matches by the respective scores of 30-14 and 30-21. Needing a win to last another match, the Bluejays topped the Ravens 30-21.

But Benedictine was victorious in the fourth match, 30-19.

Sara McAllister contributed 32 assists in the loss, and Erin Loewen added a team-high 12 kills.

The trio of Angela Kroeker, Laura Campbell and Rachelle Regier each had five blocks a piece.

Tabor rebounded from the Benedictine setback to sweep Robert Morris in three, 30-19, 30-15, and 30-18.

McAllister followed up with a repeat performance of 32 assists. Campbell killed 12 hits and blocked five.

The Bluejays remain unbeaten in KCAC, knocking out Ottawa in four in Friday's finale for Tabor, falling in the first set, 30-27, but winning the next three, 30-20, 30-18, and 30-23.

Loewen and Angela Kroeker had 11 kills a piece, and McAllister had 46 assists.

In one of the Bluejays' most successful games in blocking, Campbell and Regier led the way with four solo blocks each and three assisted.

Saturday's action began with the Bluejays upending Baker in four.

Tabor won the first set, 30-25, before falling 30-27 in the second set. The Bluejays won the next two 30-26 and 31-29.

McAllister had 45 assists, and Loewen and Regier added 15 and 12 kills, respectively.

The tournament came to an end with the Bluejays squaring off against formidable Morningside, Iowa, a team ranked 10th in the NAIA's Region IV.

Top-seeded Morningside was too tough for the Bluejays, edging them with a sweep, 30-27, 30-26 and 30-15.

Before getting injured, McAllister had 18 assists. Angela Kroeker led the Bluejays in kills with nine.

The non-conference opponents still seem to be a chore for the Bluejays to tackle.

Tabor dropped a match Sept. 23 in Wichita to the Kansas Newman Jets, the seventh-ranked team in the region.

Trailing 1-0 after the Bluejays prevailed in the first set, 30-26, Newman won the next three games for the sweep by respective 30-17, 30-23, and 30-21 scores.

The 7-8 Bluejays traveled Tuesday to Salina for a match against the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes.

Tabor returns to action today when it hosts Ottawa in a 7 p.m. start.
