Tabor student arrested in drug raid
One person was arrested Tuesday evening following the search of a Hillsboro residence by the Marion County Sheriff and Hillsboro Police Departments.
Keith Ryan Schick, 27, a sophomore at Tabor College, was arrested without incident at 415 S. Ash, Hillsboro.
Schick is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp.
Schick made his initial court appearance Wednesday morning in district court. He is being held on $5,000 surety bond.
The search warrant yielded a large amount of marijuana, scales, baggies, and drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff's office and Hillsboro assistant chief Jessey Hiebert, working with county attorney Susan Robson, obtained a search warrant for the residence.
At 8:24 p.m., the warrant was served resulting in the arrest.
"This was a very successful warrant," said Marion County Lee Becker.
"Congratulations are in order for Sergeant Jeff Soyez and the county's K-9 unit, and assistant police chief Hiebert and Hillsboro's K-9 unit."
The sheriff's office has confirmed that people were traveling from distances up to 30 miles away to the Ash Street residence to purchase marijuana.
Other law enforcement officers who assisted with the investigation and arrest were Becker, undersheriff Randal Brazil, Soyez, deputy Aaron Waddell, Hillsboro Police Chief Daniel Kinning, Hiebert, sergeant Chad Funk, and officer David Funk.
