Tabor students distinguished as Teachers of Promise

Four Tabor students have been selected this school year as Teachers of Promise.

Dionne Loewen and Rocky Rowe were designated as Teachers of Promise for the fall, and Erin Lowen and Will Enger are the Teachers of Promise for the spring semester.

Tabor education department faculty nominate Teachers of Promise. The award is given to one female and one male Tabor College student in the fall and in the spring. The students are nominated because of potential, excellence in grades and performance, and involvement in teachers' education.

The Teachers of Promise for the fall are honored at the Kansas Teacher of the Year Banquet. Loewen and Rowe attended the November banquet in Wichita accompanied by Dr. Bruce Anthony, Tabor professor.

Anthony also attended the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) State Education Conference, "Growing the Profession One Teacher at a Time," in Topeka in February where Enger and Lowen were honored.

According to Anthony, the award can even help a student find a teaching position after graduation.

"It's really an honor," said Anthony.

All education students at colleges and universities in the state are eligible for this honor given by the Kansas State Department of Education.

"This provides us a way to recognize the brightest and the best students," said Donna Bagley, chair of the education department at Tabor College.
