Tabor students receive UPS scholarships

Tabor College students Christy Berkey and Todd Harper have each been selected to receive a $2,750 UPS scholarship.

Berkey, a junior math science major from Shickley, Neb., is the daughter of Don and Shirley Kempf of Shickley and Don and Naomi Ruth Berkey of Gadsden, Ala., and a 1999 graduate of Grace Christian Academy.

Harper, a senior social science major from Reedley, Calif., is the son of Charles and Dorothy Harper of Reedley, and a 1999 graduate of South O'Brien High School.

Berkey and Harper are two of more than 651 UPS Scholars at private colleges and universities across the nation. These scholarships are funded annually by the UPS Educational Endowment Fund, which was established by the United Parcel Service at the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE) in Washington, D.C. FIHE administers the program in cooperation with its Kansas partner, the Kansas Independent College Fund.

This year, the UPS Educational Endowment Fund distributed $1.7 million for its scholarship program, bringing the total amount of scholarships awarded to almost $34 million. An additional $25,000 in competitive grants will be distributed from the fund this year to improve educational services for students and encourage collaboration among colleges.
