TABOR: Tennis squad is 2-0

The Tabor College men's tennis team began their season winning two duals last week on their home courts.

On March 6, the Bluejays defeated Baker University 5 to 4 in a hard fought match against a tough opponent.

"This was a great way for us to start our season," said head coach Lonnie Isaac. "Baker has long been a power in this region."

Number one singles player Michael Hagen lost 6-0, 6-0, and number two singles player Ryan Camping lost 6-4, 6-4.

Tabor's number three singles Rob Baboniu won 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Number four singles Neil Rabi lost 6-4, 7-6 while James Fisher and Jared Hefley, numbers five and six singles respectively, won their matches.

"Rob (Baboniu) came back from a set down with the meet tied 4-4 to clinch the victory," Isaac said.

In doubles play, Camping and Scott Friesen lost 8-3; Baboniu and Hagen won 8-2; and Adrian and Rabi won 8-4.

On March 7, Tabor defeated John Brown University 9-0. In singles play, number one singles Camping won 5-7, 6-4, 6-3; number two Hagen won 6-3, 6-4; number three Baboniu won 4-6, 6-1, 6-1; number four Fisher won 6-0, 6-0; number five Hefley won 6-3, 6-2; and number six Paul Raugust won 6-1, 6-3.

The doubles teams of Baboniu and Hagen, Camping and Friesen, and Rabi and Adrian were all undefeated.

The Bluejays won seven of eight singles matches from spots through six and played very strong doubles on both days.
